The million women suffering from endometriosis -- a condition in which uterine tissue grows elsewhere in the body inflicting pain and abnormal bleeding -- may know that pine bark extract, better know as Pycnogenol, helps alleviate their abdominal discomfort. However, a new study published in the Journal of Reproductive Medicine found that this powerful antioxidant is also an effective natural treatment for endometriosis when compared with common hormone treatments. Better yet, Pycnogenol doesn't have any of the dangerous side effects.
The research pitted the hormone treatment Gn-RHa against the pine bark extract. While the women taking the natural remedy found their symptoms decrease more slowly than those taking the conventional hormone, the first group didn't have a relapse once the treatment ended, unlike the second. Furthermore, some taking Pycnogenol were able to become pregnant during the study. On the other hand, Gn-RHa usually stops ovulation.
Specifically, the women in the study took 30 mg of Pycnogenol twice daily for 48 weeks. For more information on this promising remedy and the study go to www.pycnogenol.com.
